Broken Wings

to Sophia, the godess of wisdom

A dream was her life to conquer the sky,
That's what she wished and wanted to try,
Burned of desire her soul, boiling slow,
Was tempted to dive into unknown.

She heard thousand stories about her kind -
How they become gods by power of mind,
Raised from dirt they reached the skies,
Accepted by gods, beholding the holy prize.

All these legends must have some truth
Why would be further retold to the youth?
Why would be kept in those golden books?
She read them herself, felt their hooks!

But how can a mortal be like the gods,
Taste the heavenly nectar given by lords?
How could they rise above a condition?
There must be a way! It was her conviction…

There must be something hidden inside,
A power that hidden from eyes would abide!
Is it in heart, in soul, encrypted in mind?
By all price that’s what I need to find!

Head full of questions close to a burst,
Driven by knowing deep was the thirst!
She set in her room kindled by the fire
That sprung from her deepest desire.

She took her head sunken deep in arms -
Have to succeed, no matter the harms!
No matter how wrong was the daring,
I can't live like this, a flake in its bearing!

                            ***

Thousands of times had the sun shined above,
Her desire grew as deep as her love;
She loved those books, part of her soul
Became those writings an image of all.

From thought to thought she stepped ahead
Transcending feelings and their thread,
She learned to step in the crops of time
Moving from past to a new paradigm.

She built a new mind, she grew in her soul,
She brought her own nature under control,
She felt prepared for the ultimate attempt;
There was no fear, no hidden preempt!

She looked at the sky and aimed in her thought,
Spreading her wings in the sacred ought,
Feeling the wind molding with desire
Gathered momentum and sprung as fire.

With all the power she flew to the sky -
All she wanted was to succeed or die;
She spanned more her wings spirited high,
Above all majestic in her foolhardy fly.

Seconds were minutes, minutes were hours,
The higher the flight the fewer her powers,
The closer she felt the denser the air,
It felt more than a being ever could bear!

She felt the hot air breaking her lungs
Spreading inside in thousand tongues,
One by one they were spearing her being,
Suddenly the eyes on tear sting.

Stun was her mind, eyes become blurry,
No able to move she felt first the fury,
Then the abyss opening from inside,
The spin down – at least she tried!

Resented while falling down to the earth
She tried to be calm, to temper her breath,
The fires were there, but somehow afar,
With the last vim spread her wings far…

She felt the crush as never she felt,
Fainted in there; with time pain melt,
Melt in her mind together with grief;
Even she failed, she had still belief!

                            ***

The heavens have heard mortal’s crush,
Something has changed, hear the rush:
A mortal have tried against the odds
To become one of us, almighty gods?

Who is this mortal to think that he can
To enter the palace, the heavens’ den?
You could hear the hundreds in voice
Annoyed asking for the ultimate price.

It is a she, foolish but wise in her kind,
Nobody since ages have tried to find
More meaning to life, more love for stars,
Look at her aims, look at her scars!

Are you forgetting? We were mortals as she
She’s more alive than we’ll ever be!
And thus an old god has wisely spoke,
The rumors stopped as thunder stroke.

Looking the mortal the god made his appeal:
You followed a dream, someday might be real!
Broken your wings but pure the heart.
Hard was the lesson, hard from the start…

Stand up and continue your strive,
Heal yours wounds, live, revive!
You’ll find someday your place above,
There’s so much strength in pure love!

The mortal stood, kneeling down,
She felt the burden of her crown,
She had her answer, she had her quest,
And now it’s time to heal, to rest…

She steps on her feet, still feeling the strain,
With every step accepting the pain
Of a fallen angel walking the earth,
Carrying a burden owned from her birth.
